Who Needs to Apply?
Travelers from 67 visa-exempt countries and 45 visa-free entry countries need to apply for a KETA if they plan to visit or even just transit through South Korea. So, if you’re coming from one of these countries, make sure to get your K-ETA before you travel.
How Long Is K-ETA Valid?
Once approved, your KETA is good for up to two years, as long as there are no changes to essential personal details like your name, nationality, or passport number. If any of this information changes, you’ll need to reapply for a new KETA.

Who Doesn’t Need a K-ETA?
There are a few groups who are exempt from needing a K-ETA:
- Holders of diplomatic or official passports
- Travelers who already have a valid Korean visa or are registered foreigners in Korea
- Dual citizens with a valid Korean passport
- U.S. military personnel on official duty in Korea
- Crew members (including those joining a crew)
- ABTC cardholders (except for those from the United States and Canada)
- UN Passport Holders (UNLP, LAISSEZ-PASSER)
- Transit passengers (note: you’ll still need an approved K-ETA if you plan to enter Korea during your transit)
